Material Notification Shade is an application that allows you to customize the notification bar by changing the design and color as you wish. You can change the color of the line itself (which is black by default) as well as the text for each alert. From the settings, you can select the color you want for each aspect of the notification bar.

Although you can manually customize every aspect of the notification bar, you can also select any of the predefined themes. You can also change the image of your avatar directly from the hardware alert shadow options.

Material Notification Shade is a great customization application and does not require root privileges. If you have a rooted smartphone, you can also access some additional features, but it is not required to use the app.
